The Neasdon Queen of Soul - An interview with Mari Wilson - Photographs by Cornel Lucas and Peter Ashworth

1814: Was it difficult to maneuver with such a tall beehive hairdo? Do you recall any mishaps?

MW: Oh yeah, lot's of mishaps. One of the worst was when I was waiting backstage to come on... the band would play the riff to 'Baby It's True' and Hank Bee Hive would be winding the audience up into a frenzy. My cue was 'here's Mari!'. As I went to come on stage my beehive got caught in the lighting rig and there was nobody there... the bass and the riff went on and on and on... I was shouting but no one could hear me. Eventually someone realized that there must be something wrong and came to free me! Very funny...
