1814: Having been raised in the South of France, moving to Los Angeles must have been something of a culture shock. What were your first impressions of Los Angeles?

EM: My first impression of Los Angeles was this immense feeling of freedom and no boundaries. Coming from France where everything is groomed... from the gardens, parks, beaches and even the streets; I could not understand how Los Angeles was so chaotic. In some ways it felt like a third world country...
