Snowdon's London - From the book 'London' 1958 - Photographs by Antony Armstrong Jones - Introduction by Antony Armstrong Jones

Londoner's are essentially locals. There are locals of Victoria and Chelsea, of Portabello Road, of Cable Street, and of Rotherhithe, all with a language that's as private as a patois, relaxed when they're inside the circle and a bit guarded with non members. As I went around London I tried to catch this local feeling, which is the moment when I think people are most themselves, their most normal, and in a way their most strange. The row of Kennsington nannies that I photographed in the park, and the striptease audience in the Canning Town pub, would probably both find each other fairly surprising.... Antony Armstrong Jones
