1814: Did Georges Dambier have a favorite among his photographs?
GD: Not really, Georges was more attached to the souvenir of the shoot than the final result. For us a photograph is an object... an object that you will like or not. He couldn't see his photo for itself; it was always related to memories of a good or bad moment... the people who were there... the location.... Of course, in a second he could tell you if a photo was good or not, but for his own photograph the judgement was more sentimental than strictly professional.
1814: Georges Dambier's photographs express a certain sense of humor and a joy for life. Is this reflective of him as a person?
GD: Yes, my father was a person incredibly gifted at life... always getting the best of it. There is a saying in French that fits him perfectly... 'mettre un pur d'art dans votre vie, mettez un peu de vie dans votre art'... 'put some art in your life, put some life in your art'.
